Let's Celebrate

Both families got together this year. Not only did we have Thanksgiving as a reason to celebrate, but also Great Grandpa Bob's eighty-fifth birthday, Gammie Susie's birthday, Steve and Jessica's engagement and our fifth anniversary. Lilly enjoyed all of the laughter, hugs, kisses and pie. Yes. She really had pie. I looked the other way. I guess as long as she is not handed a big ol' greasy turkey leg, I will deal. However, the first time she pukes on me because she ate something she was not supposed to, everyone is in big, big trouble!

Looking around the table that day, I was surprisingly struck by emotion. Lilly has so many wonderful people that are in her life. She will grow up feeling so loved. I know that each one of them will enrich her life so much. Her character will be shaped by the relationships she has with them. Her memories will be full of experiences that they provide her. She doesn't know it yet, or maybe she does, but she will always have the protection, love and support of her family. That really is a beautiful thing.

¡Celebremos!

Hyper Spooktacular

We took Lilly to the LA County Zoo's Spooktacular. Kids wear their costumes and the zoo has all of these vendors giving away all kinds of free booty. Loot everywhere. However, to our dismay, that included CANDY-lots of it. You can only imagine what it was like with thousands of costumed kids all hopped up on candy running all over the place. They were even freaking the animals out. It was like an unmonitored booby hatch. Now, I like kids. My chosen profession puts me in crazy situations with them all of the time and I manage not to loose it. But that day, I was ready to drop kick as many of them as I could get my foot under. And I am not even going to get into the altercation that almost went down with a pushy stroller mom who was going to mow me down so that her son could take my front row spot at the dolphin exhibit. All that said, call us gluttons for punishment, but we will still probably go next year. Maybe Lilly will be walking by then and she will be able to join in on the madness.

Because that's what you do when you have kids. You regularly, knowingly subject yourself to chaos. We did have a lot of laughs there. And, the Starbucks helped but it did not get us anywhere near the same energy level as all of those little monsters, I mean children.

Soooo Busted!

They are becoming great friends but Mona has a habit of stealing kisses. She's a sugar bandit! Lilly doesn't seem to mind. She insists that Mona is the funniest dog she has ever met. She cracks her up constantly.

¡Te Cogieron Con Las Manos En La Masa!

Cranky Cheeky Monkey

It makes sense. We had a cat named Monkey, a dog named Mona (girl Monkey) and now a baby monkey. Babies in Halloween costumes are so cute but they have no freakin' idea what is going on. Yet, still, we shove them into them for the sake of pictures. I have some more pictures coming from the Halloween parade. Gammie Sergeant drove all the way out so that Lilly could attend and then they spent the day together. She wasn't crying in her costume that day-I swear. We try to torture her the least amount possible.

Monita Irritada

snaggle tooth

I have not been able to get it on film or camera but Lil's got a tooth. The way she eats I think it has to do witht the fact the she needs a way to tear into that pizza crust I gave her at Roundtable one day. Mamma was pissed, not so much cuz I gave her highly refined, yeasted gluten product; Bad Daddy! But more along the lines of being "those people", (you know the ones that take a kid to a restaurant and spoil everyones mood with the scientifically proven most disturbing human sound, baby wail.) When we took the crust away because of possible breakage and chokage the engine started revin' up. You can tell when shes about to blow, its like an old huge american land boat. This one was japanese, quick and descisive. So we could tell it was anger, not hunger or annoyance.

(finger snap!) Hey! wake up. Finish your milk.
(¡sonando los dedos!) Ey! Despierta. Termínate tu leche.

The one thing I have gained most from this experience is the realization of the level of maturity required to accept that things like communication, and life for that matter, take time. That all we can do is learn patience and accept that this is our endless ride, this is our gift from the unknown; not the destination where all of those things we want may be, but the emotions, memories, the smells, the sounds of a life going in a direction you give it. Mine, Lauries, our sibings and parents lives have certainly found a new path to be on once we have all disappeared. Hers is a path with no end in sight for us, a beautiful place to put the unquantifiable love and hard earned lessons we cannot take with us. We look forwarrd to the day she will find us and herself another beauty for us to lavish with our silly coos and unreasonable buying frenzies (grandmas!).

here's the vids. teething and one armed milk chug, ladies watch your hair and jewlery.

my dad's a bum

I finally put in the time to contribute to this wonderful thing my wife has done. Needless to say she is cute, but she is also curious, tempermental, forever hungry and always yearning to be in the mix. Only way to see that is with film, so heres a tiny clip, more to come when i get this whole video conversion thing down. and I am able to sort through our many hours of video.
