Normalcy

We have had several visitors over the last few months. It has been great. Lilly is, for the most part, a mellow baby. I think it has been nice, at least I hope so, for our friends without children to see that you can have a kid and still live a normal adult life. Rene and I still manage to read books, watch TV, have discussions and enjoy being a couple. However, it is safe to say that not all babies are like Lilly and she just might be a major trickster. She could be lulling you all into a false sense of the possibility for having a kickback baby. What you guys don't realize is that the only reason she is calm is because we zonk her out with whiskey in her bottles-Just Kidding! Anywho, we have thoroughly enjoyed everyone's company. It is such a treat to see her be such a welcoming hostess. She's so obviously going to be a people person.
These are pictures of Lilly with our friend Beth. She officiated our marriage and five years later she is playing with our baby. Oh, how life has changed, but fortunately our friendships have remained and have even grown stronger.

La Normalidad

Hemos tenido mucha compañía este mes. A sido genial. Lilly es una bebe calmada, la mayoría del tiempo. A sido bonito ver a nuestros amigos que no tienen hijos, han tenido la oportunidad de ver que uno puede tener hijos y mantener una vida normal. René y yo todavía hacemos tiempo para leer, ver Tele, tener discusiones y darnos gusto siendo una pareja. Pero, con seguridad puedo decir que no todos los bebes son como Lilly, y quizás en un futuro va ser traviesa. Puede ser que los está embaucando a creer que es una niña relajada. Lo que no saben es que solo aparece ser calmada porque le ponemos whiskey en su pacha para mantenerla así. Son bromas. Bueno, de todos modos, nos hemos divertido con nuestra compañía. A sido un placer para nosotros ver que Lilly es una anfitriona acogedora. Obviamente va a ser una persona muy sociable.

Estas son fotos de Lilly con nuestra amiga Beth. Para nuestra boda, ella nos casó, y cinco años después está jugando con nuestro bebe. Ay, como cambia la vida, pero afortunadamente hemos mantenido nuestras amistades, y continúan a crecer.

My Sherona

She isn't actually talking on the phone. She is dancing to MP3s. Although she did make her first independent phone call recently. She speed dialed my mom and was chattin' away to her. I didn't know it had happened until my mom called me back a few minutes later. So sneaky!

No está hablando por teléfono. Está bailando a los MP3. Aunque hace poquito hizo una llamada ella solita. Llamó a mi mamá con mi celular y se puso a platicar con ella. Ni supe que lo había hecho hasta que me llamó mi mamá a pocos minutos después. ¡Que traviesa!

It starts off slow but then she starts rockin' out. Yes, I did snort. Did you know that you can't rotate videos? I do now.

Empieza despasito pero después se pone bien animada. Si, esa soy yo, riendome y resoplando. Sabían que no se pueden rotar los vídeos? Hoy lo aprendí.

Sleepy Bear

Most of the time she tucks herself up into a little ball.

La mayoría del tiempo duerma así en una chivolita.

Other times she just completely crashes out.

Y otras veces, cae muerta donde sea.
Update on Lilly's life: She is almost 18 pounds now. She is eating all kinds foods, the mushy types. She also loves eating crackers, wheat toast and Puffs. When we go to restaurants she is a busboy's nightmare because she occupies her time smashing crackers all over the place. She is not walking yet but she crawls everywhere and is standing well, if she has something to hold onto. She is a great sleeper, as the pictures indicate. She is very silly and giggles at everything. She has started to grab Mona who is being extremely patient with her. She only says "Mama" (we think she knows what it means) but jibber jabbers all day long in baby language. Her sounds and words change about every 3 to 4 days. Just when we think we have gotten something figured out, she changes it on us. Overall she is doing great and hitting all of her milestones at predictable times. Also, she gets cuter every day.

Osita Dormilona

Actualización sobre la vida de Lilly: Pesa casi 18 libras, un poco más de 8 kilos. Come un montón de cosas. Le fascinan las galletas saladas, pan de trigo y Puffs (un tipo cereal para niños, se parecen a los Cheerios). Cuando vamos a restaurantes, es una pesadilla para los ayudantes de los meseros, los que limpian las mesas, porque le gusta hacer migajas de las galletas saladas. Todavía no esta caminando, pero gatea bien y se puede parar sola con la ayuda de cualquier pedazo de mueble que encuentra. Duerme muy bien, como se nota en estas fotos. Es bien pueril y le gusta reírse de todo. A empezado a agarrar a Mona (la perra), y Mona continua siendo paciente con ella. Solamente dice Mama (creemos que sabe lo que está diciendo) y se pasa todo el día platicando sola, en lengua de bebe. Sus sonidos y "palabras" cambian cada 3 o 4 días. Cada vez que pensamos que la entendemos, nos cambia todo. Sobre todo está realizando todos sus hitos en tiempo apropiado. Y también, se pone mas chula todos los días.

Boy did I hear it for not sending out a picture Christmas card. I didn't know this, but you are absolutely required to do it when you have a kid. I thought I would shoot for a Valentine's Day picture to redeem myself. I was going to keep them as a surprise but I could not resist posting them now. Plus, declaring my intention on the blog will make me actually do it. The Kelleys will get the first copy, that is, after the Grandmas.

One of my favorite things in the whole world is dancing babies. She really likes shakin' her tail feather. I love it!

Una de la cosas que me facinan son los bebes bailando. De veras le gusta bailar. ¡Me encanta!

Dame Azúcar

De veras que todo mundo se quejo con migo por no mandar una tarjeta de navidad con foto de Lilly. No lo sabía, pero es requerimiento que al tener hijo, en tiempo de navidad, hay que mandarlas. Creo que voy a hacer el intento de recompensar para el Día de San Valentín. Iba tratar de usar estas fotos como sorpresa, pero no pude resistir ponerlas ya. Además, declarando mis intenciones en este blog hará que lo cumpla. La familia Kelly va a recibir la primera, que diga, después de las abuelas.

Ooooooooh!

Santa got us annual Sea World passes so that we could take our little guy to check it out all year. She really seemed to like it. This picture was taken with the walruses (their anatomy happens to include some scarily gigantic parts). Her new noise is "Ooooooooh." She kept cracking people up because they thought that she was reacting to the animals. Little do they know she makes that sound all day long, every day. It is super cute!

Este año Santa nos regaló un pase a Sea World para todo el año. Así podremos llevar a nuestra chiquilla, y parece que le gusta mucho. Esta foto la tomamos con las morsas (cuyas tienen una partes anatómicas impresionantes que dan miedo). Su sonido nuevo es "ooooo". Les seguía dando risa a la gente en el parque porque creían que estaba dicéndolo como alguna reacción a los animales. Lo que no saben es que ella hace ese ruido todo el día, cada día. Es super lindo.

Of course Iwanted to get a picture with the Anheuser-Busche/Shrek donkey. That little stinker bites! He started to wrap his slimy lips around my fingers but I yanked my hand away just in the nick of time.

Claro, quise tomarme una foto con el burro de Anheuser-Busch que se parece al que sale en la película Shrek. ¡Ese maldito muerde! Empezó a envolver mis dedos con sus labios babosos y apenas alcancé a quitarle la mano.

Snow Bunnies

We had one of those all night rains where you wake up and the mountains are completely white from being dusted in snow. Powdered sugar is the best description. It really is breathtaking every single time. The Inland Empire might not always be the greatest but I would miss those mornings if we no longer lived here. Rene took the girls up to Big Bear to see the snow.

Conejitos de Nieve

Tuvimos unas de esas noches que llovió toda la noche, y al amanecer, las montañas estaban completamente blancas, cubiertas de nieve. La mejor descripción es azúcar para repostería. Siempre es una vista impresionante. El área adonde vivimos no es de los mejores lugares, pero si algún día nos fuéramos, me hicieran falta estas mañanas. René llevo a las niñas a ver la nieve en Big Bear.

All Hail the Stay-at-Home Mom

I will encounter a bitter sweet departure tomorrow. I go back to work. For the last two weeks I have been on vacation and have experienced what it is like to be a stay-at-home mom. I admit that I underestimated the amount of energy that goes into each and every second. Pure exhaustion. My pillow, at the end of the day, has never been so comforting. But don't get me wrong, although it sounds like I am complaining, I am really not. It has been wonderful to see her progress through milestones. A nice routine has been established which includes snuggling and nap time that I don't normally get. Through this I have realized that although babies always recognize and need their mothers, it is a different relationship when you are together on a daily basis. You become in sync. Tomorrow I have to give this up. I return to the stress ridden chaos of being a full-time working mom. I will miss her so much but balance has to be reachieved. I do enjoy being a working gal and take pride in being able to help provide for her. I commend those parents that are able to stay home and take care of their kids full time.

Todos Aclamemos a las Amas de Casa

Mañana tendré una partida agridulce. Regreso al trabajo. Las últimas 2 semanas e estado de vacación, y experimenté lo que es ser ama de casa. Puedo admitir que sub-estimé toda la energía que requiere cada minuto y cada segundo. Es puro agotamiento. Mi almohada, al fin del día, nunca la sentí tan cómoda. Pero no me mal interpreten, aunque sueno como si me estoy quejando, no es cierto. A sido un placer verla llegar a tantos hitos en su vida. Una rutina linda a sido establecida, con cosas que nunca tengo la oportunidad de disfrutar, como acurrucándonos en la cama, tomar siestas. Por estas experiencias e aprendido que aunque un bebe siempre reconoce y necesitan a sus mamas, es una relación muy distinta cuando pasas todo el día juntas. Te sincronizas, la una a la otra. Mañana tendré que dejar todo esto. Regreso a la vida estresada y caótica de ser una mamá que trabaja. La voy a extrañar tanto, pero el balance tiene que ser re-establecido. Me gusta ser chica que trabaja, y me da orgullo poder contribuir a nuestro hogar. Encomiendo a esos padres que se pueden quedar en casa para cuidar a sus hijos.

Ringing in the New Year

Lilly's Abuela got her this gorgeous dress to celebrate New Years in true princess style. So I hear, now is the time to take advantage of the fact that she can't say, "No" to being dressed up like a doll. There is no doubt that this has been taken advantage of lately.

We all went to Casa Camerena for New Years Eve. Much fun was had by all. There was lots of dancing, spirit and laughter. Here are some of the pictures. There is a special treat at the end.


Celebrando El Año Nuevo
La Abuela de Lilly le compro este vestido divino para celebrar el Año Nuevo con estilo, como princesa. Me cuentan que ahora es el tiempo de aprovechar que no puede renegar cuando la visto como una muñeca. No cabe duda que hemos aprovechado este mes. Todos fuimos a la Casa de los Camarena para el Año Nuevo. Bailamos mucho, habían muchas carcajadas y buen espíritu. Aquí les pongo unas fotos. Hay algo especial al final.
