Thinking about how the times have changed...

They are DVRing) Lilly and I spent part of the morning sitting in front of my laptop, wirelessly, effortlessly perusing through baby websites looking for things that Santa might want to consider. What I was impressed with most is all of the baby technology. MP3 players, digital cameras, laptops-all for infants and toddlers. I'm not talking about things you would use with them. These are all intended to be operated by the child themselves. Now I don't know about you, but I did not grow up like that. It is not that our parents didn't do the best that they could, it is that it simply wasn't possible at the time. It is a completely different world now. Lilly's generation is going to grow up working technology just as easily as they breathe.

As a Generation Xer, I have grown pretty adept technologically. But it has felt like an uphill battle at times with a lot of self teaching and trial and error. It will be different for Lilly. She will most likely never have to have that "Beauty and the Geek" moment where she begs her computer geek friend to help her figure out what it means when that "FATAL ERROR" warning screen with the little bomb pops up.

Which takes me to heavy hearted place. One day soon, she will take this blog over. No longer will I be able to gush over her many milestones and moments of sweetness and hilarity. I also think about the inevitable loss of her innocence. With access to all of this technology her little brain will be inundated with information and exposure to all the good and bad things that make us human. That's where diligent parenting comes in. I guess I WILL still have something to do when she gets too big for her britches.

Pensando en como han cambiado las cosas...

(La primera es una foto de Lilly y su Poppi Al. Estan usando el DVR) Lilly y yo pasamos parte de nuestra mañana sentadas en frente de mi portátil, con conexión inalámbrica, sin mayor esfuerzo, navegando por el Internet a las páginas de cosas para bebes, buscando cosas que quizás quiere considerar Santa. Lo que me impresionó más que todo fue la tecnología para bebes. MP3, cámaras digitales, portátiles, todos para niños y bebes. No eran cosas que uno usaría con su bebe. Todos son hechos para que los niños los usen solos. Bueno, no se de ustedes, pero yo no me crié así. Nuestros padres hicieron lo mejor que pudieron en esos tiempos, simplemente, estas cosas no eran posibles. Es un mundo muy distinto hoy. La generación de Lilly se van a criar usando la tecnología tan fácil como respiran.

Como alguien de la generación X, me e familiarizado con la tecnología, y la uso a diario. Pero a veces lo siento como un camino laborioso, con método de prueba y error, y tener que enseñarse a uno mismo. Va a ser distinto para Lilly. Probablemente nunca tendré que pasar por ese momento de "La Bella y el Geek" cuando ella tendrá que pedirle ayuda a un cretino cuando en su computadora sale el mensaje "error fatal" con una caricatura de bomba.

Que me trae a un lugar triste. Algún día, muy luego ella continuara este Blog. Ya no podre postar con entusiasmo sobre sus varios hitos en la vida, sus momentos de ternura y comedia. También pienso en el momento inevitable cuando pierda su inocencia. Con tanto acceso a esta tecnología su pequeño cerebro va ser inundada con información y exposición a todos las cosas buenas y malas que nos hacen humanos. Allí sera el momento para la diligencia en ser padres. Parece que SI tendrá cosas que hacer cuando crezca y no necesite de mi para la tecnología.
